Information About Labrador Retrievers
Labrador Retriever Breeds:
There are several different breeds of Labrador Retrievers, Yellow Labrador, Chocolate (or Brown) Labrador & of course the most famous, Black Labrador - made famous by the brand The Black Dog (restaurants & apparel company originated in Martha's Vineyard - an island off Massachuesetts).
Within these breeds of Labrador Retriever, there are two types and lines, the English Labrador and the Amercian Labrador.
The English Labrador tends to be shorter and stockier and the American Labrador tends to be taller, thinner and more athletic looking.
Labrador Temperment:
Labrador Retrievers have an excellent temperment and tend to be excellent pets around children. In fact, this is what has made them one of the most popular pet dogs in America.
Labradors are athletic dogs with high energy and require both mental and physical exercise and stimulation very regularly. They grow very attached to their human counterparts and if are not paid enough attention or trained properly, then can be destructive and disobedient.
The English Labrador does tend to be a bit calmer and more mellow than the American Labrador and may not require quite as much stimulation and exertion.
Labrador Life Expectancy:
As is the case with most larger dogs, the life expectancy of a Labrador Retriever is about 10 - 14 years. Of course there are exceptions and the better conditions, diet and excercise your Labrador gets, the longer they will likely live.
Grooming your Labrador:
Labradors have short hair which is easy to groom. You should brush your labrador regularly to prevent excessive shedding, but Labradors are only moderate shedders (unlike a Golden Retriever for example).
